There are a lot of myths about coming off methadone, e.g., methadone gets into your bones, so when you come down in your dose you get pains in your legs.
Others believe people should be kept on methadone for life. Maybe the pharmaceutical industry is putting out these myths, so that people stay on methadone and they make more money.
There is not a lot of money made from methadone, the real money is made, because methadone is a platform for doctors to prescribe other drugs, e.g. anti depressants, sleeping tablets, and valium. Of course if your on methadone long enough with nothing to do, you will be depressed and anxious and probably not be able to sleep, so you will look for other drugs to help, but then you end up on more drugs than when you were on heroin.
I think one mil reduction of methadone per week is realistic, so long as your in counseling, and doing things to make your life busy and interesting.
